Recommendations for choosing the positions of the automatic box

Starting the engine

The Transporter T4 engine can only be started when the selector lever is in the "N" or "P" position.
If, before turning on the ignition, the button on the selector lever handle was pressed and held in this position, the key in the ignition lock cannot be turned.

Selecting a mode for driving

Before moving the selector lever to one of the positions with the car standing still and the engine idling, you must always depress the brake pedal.
When choosing a mode, you must not press the “gas” pedal (“re-gassing” is harmful).
If the selector was accidentally set to the “N” position while the vehicle was moving, it is necessary to remove the foot from the “gas” pedal and wait for the frequency to drop to the engine idle speed before moving the lever to any forward

position

. (R, D, 3, 2, 1) Wait until after moving the selector lever, the transmission engages a gear and the torque reaches the drive wheels (a slight push is felt). Only then press the “gas” pedal.

Stopping

When stopping briefly, for example at a traffic light, do not move the selector lever.

It is enough to keep the car in place with the help of the brake. The engine, at the same time, must run at idle. Parking

On a sloping road, it is recommended to first securely apply the parking brake, and then move the selector lever to the “P” position.

In this case, the locking mechanism will not be overloaded, and subsequently it will be possible to easily remove the selector lever from this position. It is not permissible to hold the car on an inclined section only with the selector lever in the “P” position, this will lead to accelerated wear of the wheel lock drive. Starting the engine with a tow

Towing or pushing a vehicle with an automatic cannot start the engine.
With a discharged battery, you can use the battery of another car to start the engine using the connecting wires (“cigarette lighters”).

Towing if it is impossible to eliminate the malfunction

If the car cannot be made to move on its own, it is recommended to tow it to the place of repair or parking, always following the recommendations.
The towing rope is attached to special loops located under the front and rear bumpers.
On vehicles equipped with a towbar (hitch) there is no loop under the rear bumper, because. the tug is supposed to be attached to the tow bar. When towing, always turn the ignition key to position "II" to unlock the steering lock, while power is supplied to the direction indicators and brake lights. We remind you that the towing vehicle must have its dipped headlights on, and the towed vehicle must have an emergency alarm (fix an emergency stop sign on the back door).
Before towing, release the parking brake and set the gearshift lever to the "neutral" position (on an automatic transmission, the selector lever to the "N" position).
It is not recommended to use a steel cable as a tug, use a synthetic rope.
When the engine is not running, the vacuum brake booster does not work, as well as the power steering.
Keep in mind that the effort on the brake pedal and steering wheel will increase significantly. Models with automatic transmission are not recommended to be towed at a speed of more than 50 km/h and for a distance of more than 50 km.
If the transmission (gearbox) loses tightness, it is impossible to tow the car without disconnecting the axle shafts.
When towing all-wheel drive models, disengage the differential lock. When towing an all-wheel drive model, it is necessary to hang out the wheels of one axle and ensure their free rotation.
