The VW T4 has a dry single-plate clutch with a belleville spring and a release bearing. In most models, the clutch is controlled by a hydraulic actuator consisting of a master and slave cylinder. In other models, the clutch is controlled by a mechanical drive (rod) with a device for self-adjusting the drive gap. Belleville spring, pressure plate and clutch cover form a single assembly (basket), which, in case of damage, must be replaced as an assembly.
