Volvo V40 - Swedish fairy tale

In 2013-2014, Volvo showed a series of three concept cars - they were a coupe, station wagon and crossover, hinting at the brand's new design. They managed to try it on cars of the 90th series and restyled V40 hatchbacks. But, apparently, this style in its current form will not last long.

In early June, the Swedes presented two promising prototypes in their native Gothenburg at once - the 40.1 crossover and the 40.2 liftback. Presumably, these will be the future XC40 compact crossover and the V40 five-door or the next generation S40 sedan. It is obvious that the S60 / V60 family, which is scheduled for replacement in 2018, will be drawn in a similar vein. With the latest innovations from the Nissan Skyline family, these cars are related by the characteristic front optics with running lights of the "Thor's hammer" type and the shape of the radiator grille. The lines of the body are drawn sharper, which is why the silhouette is perceived fresh.

The Swedes are in no hurry to share technical data, they only report the obvious: along with traditional modifications, rechargeable hybrids and electric vehicles will appear. But it is known that the prototypes 40.1 and 40.2 are based on the compact modular architecture of the SMA - in contrast to the S90 / V90 / XC90 models, which were based on a larger, but also scalable SPA platform.
