Crankshaft - removal VR6

Just like on in-line engines, to dismantle the crankshaft Transporter T4 , it is necessary to remove the engine from the car.
Below is a summary of the sequence of operations, only the salient features are described in detail. ♦ Disconnect the gearbox from the engine.
♦ With a mark, disconnect the clutch basket from the flywheel.
Loosen the bolts and remove the belt pulley from the crankshaft. ♦ Loosen the bolts and remove the flywheel or remove the fluid coupling and remove the drive disc.
The flywheel/drive disc mounting bolts are disposable and must be replaced. ♦ Remove the ring gear (6) of the speed sensor, it is recommended to replace it after dismantling.
♦ Remove the belt pulley from the water pump.
♦ Mark the direction of the drive chain's working movement on its outer surface with paint.
♦ Remove the drive chains and other camshaft drive parts.
♦ Remove the cylinder head.
♦ Remove the oil pan.
♦ Remove the oil pump.
♦ If only the T4 crankshaft is needed, the pistons and connecting rods can be left in the cylinder block.
Otherwise, remove the pistons and connecting rods as described in chapter 2.1.4.1. If the pistons and connecting rods remain in the block, it is necessary to mark the connecting rod caps and, having removed the caps, set aside them together with the liners. Don't forget to replace the cap screws. ♦ Measure the end play of the crankshaft.
The bearing of the fifth bearing is equipped with two thrust half rings, which determine the axial clearance of the crankshaft. ♦ Loosen the bolts and remove the front cover with the crankshaft oil seal from the engine block.
The stuffing box after dismantling the cover must be replaced. ♦ Remove the rear crankshaft cover Transporter T4 (1) (Fig.2.101) at the opposite end of the cylinder block.
The stuffing box after dismantling the cover must be replaced. ♦ Loosen the bolts of the bearing caps in stages and crosswise and remove the caps.
Before dismantling, check that the cap numbers are clearly visible. Cover No. 1 is located on the side of the belt pulley. ♦ Remove the bearings from the main journals and stack them with their respective caps.
Bearing half shells without an oil groove must be placed in the bearing caps if they are to be used again.
Carefully remove the crankshaft from the cylinder block. ♦ Remove the remaining half-shells from the crankcase and set them aside with the caps.
♦ If necessary, check the actual crankshaft journal clearances with Plastigage plastic wires.
