Flywheel (manual transmission) VR6

To remove the Volkswagen T4 (unscrew the mounting bolts), you need to block its ring gear or crankshaft.
Bolts are disposable, because deform when tightened. The device and fixture of coupling and a flywheel are shown in fig.
168. It should be remembered that there is a ring gear working in tandem with a crankshaft speed sensor. After dismantling, the crown must be replaced. If cracks, deep grooves, burn marks (spots of a characteristic color) are found on the working surface of the flywheel (to the clutch disc), then the flywheel must be replaced.
The T4 flywheel can be replaced without removing the engine, first you need to disconnect the gearbox.
After dismantling the box, check the condition of the clutch parts, as well as the tightness of the rear oil seal and its cover gasket. It is convenient to repair all detected damage before mounting the flywheel. When installing the flywheel, finger-tighten the bolts first, then block the flywheel or crankshaft, whichever is more convenient. Tighten the bolts in stages and crosswise, tightening torque 70 Nm. After that, each bolt, again crosswise, tighten another quarter turn (90º).
