Removing camshaft drive parts VR6

To provide access to the camshaft drive parts, it is necessary to dismantle all the parts located on the end wall of the Volkswagen Transporter T4 .
To fine-tune the camshaft drive, a special template is required.
Before proceeding with the dismantling of parts, the piston of the first cylinder should be set to TDC of the compression stroke, as will be described below. After removing the drive chains, if the block head is not removed, the crankshaft must not be turned, otherwise the pistons may hit the valves. To loosen the tension on the upper drive chain, unscrew the chain tensioner from the side of the head of the block.
As a result, the chain will weaken. Before dismantling, mark the upper or lower chains with paint. To remove the upper chain, either one of the camshaft end sprockets or the countershaft drive sprocket must be removed.
In both cases, it is necessary to block the crankshaft. When unscrewing the sprocket mounting bolts, use a 24 mm wrench to hold the corresponding camshaft. To remove the lower drive chain, it must be marked.
The chain is removed together with the corresponding countershaft sprocket. Dismantling the rest of the parts is not difficult.
