Repair of small scratches on the body

♦ If the scratch is very superficial and does not reach the base metal, the repair
is very simple.
Wipe the area lightly with paint thinner and fine sanding paste to prepare the surface coating and scratches, and clean the area of wax polish and dirt. Rinse the entire area with clean water, dry it or wipe it with chamois. ♦ Apply a small amount of paint to the scratch using a thin brush;
continue to apply thin coats of paint until the paint surface in the scratched area is flush with the paint surface on the undamaged surface. Let the paint dry for the time indicated on the can, then level the area with a special paste. Finish the repair with a wax polish. ♦ If the scratch has reached the base metal of the body and caused rust, the principle of restoring the coating is completely different. Scrape off all paint and rust from the scratch and at some distance from it (3-5 mm of pure metal) with a penknife, then sand the entire surface or grinder, trying to remove as much rust as possible (preferably all), then treat the metal with a special chemical composition to create a chemically passive layer (phosphoric acid or rust modifier), carefully remove the remains of the chemical composition, according to its instructions. Then putty the entire surface of the metal to level it with the surrounding surface, it is convenient to use a rubber or nylon putty knife. With a small area and depth, putty (necessarily suitable for working on metal surfaces) on a nitro base is usually used. Before the putty paste has completely hardened, you can additionally smooth it with a small piece of cotton cloth moistened with a solvent. Now this place can be painted over as described above.
