Radiator - removal and installation
Transporter T4 radiator , electrically driven fan and rubber hoses of a standard cooling system are shown in fig.
234. Except for the shape of the cooling system hoses, all the main components of the cooling system are the same on all engines. Some models have two electric fans and a correspondingly modified housing for mounting them. The fan thermal switch is installed in the radiator from below, on the left side.
Disconnect the battery before removing the heatsink or fan. The radiator is removed as follows: ♦ Tilt the T4 radiator and the front part of the body forward.
Remove also protection of a crankcase of the engine. ♦ Drain the cooling system as described above.
Turn away a stopper of a broad tank. ♦ Remove the cable lugs from the thermal switch terminals and from the fan motor, or from the two motors if two fans are installed.
♦ Loosen and remove the upper and lower coolant hose clamps, remove the hoses from the radiator fittings.
Also remove the hose going to the expansion tank. ♦ The cooling system hoses are secured with two types of clamps: spring clamps or band clamps with screw clamp.
♦ On the left and right sides of the radiator, knock out
the pins from the spring connectors and remove these connectors from the radiator brackets (see Fig. 232).

♦ Remove the radiator from the vehicle Transporter T4.
♦ If necessary, disconnect the case and fan(s) motor from the heatsink.
The radiator is installed in the reverse order. Fill the cooling system as described above, after installing the radiator, check the tightness of the cooling system.
