Mercedes Benz - ML 55 AMG
Starting in 2000, the M-Class SUV range will be supplemented by two new additions: the 347-horsepower version of the ML 55 AMG and the ML 270 CDI, the first diesel version in the M-Class range.
Both cars were shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The first is equipped with a 5-liter engine modified by the engineers of the AMG department, which is installed on the S-class models. With new aluminum pistons, an improved lubrication system, special camshafts and their modified drive, this engine has become like a sports car engine.
As a result, "finishing", including an increase in working volume up to 5.5 liters. the maximum torque increased to 510 Nm at 2800 rpm of the crankshaft, and the maximum power reached 347 hp, which provided the SUV with very high dynamic qualities. The maximum speed of the car is forcibly limited to 232 km/h. From standstill to 100 km / h, it accelerates in 6.9 seconds. To improve handling, the model is equipped with 285/50 R18 spikes, and an electronic motion stabilization system has been introduced as standard. Cars will be produced only with automatic transmission. The interior update affected the front seats, instrument panel and console.
The diesel engine, which will be installed on the SUV, is distinguished by the perfection of its design.
The fuel supply system with a common fuel line and direct fuel injection (Common rail), the use of four valves per cylinder, a variable geometry turbocharger and an efficient intercooler made it possible to "remove" from five cylinders with a working volume of 2.7 liters a power equal to 163 hp . and maximum torque of 370 Nm in the range of 1800-2600 rpm. The new motor turned out to be not only very high-torque and powerful. in and economical. The ML 270 CDI SUV consumes 9.3 l/100 km with an automatic transmission and 9.4 l/100 km with a manual transmission (average fuel consumption values according to European standards). Models of 2000 will also feature an expanded list of standard equipment, and many additions have been made to custom equipment.
