Clutch removal
The T4 clutch can be removed without removing the engine from the Volkswagen Transporter T4 .
♦ Remove the gearbox.
Mark the position of the clutch basket relative to the flywheel with a punch if you plan to use the old parts later.
♦ Loosen evenly and crosswise the bolts securing the basket.
During dismantling, it is necessary to fix the flywheel. ♦ Remove the clutch basket and remove the driven plate from it.
Note that the long part of the disc hub is pointing towards the gearbox. This should be kept in mind to avoid problems during assembly. ♦ Wipe the inside of the flywheel immediately and check the condition of its running surface.
If the drive plate linings are worn down to the rivet heads, the rivets may have damaged the surface of the flywheel and/or basket pressure plate. If, for any reason, the engine or gearbox has been removed, it is imperative to check the clutch, as in this case, the complexity of repairing the clutch is minimal.
