Fuel pump check
Test conditions: the battery must be fully charged (12V minimum), the fuel filter is in working order.
Checking the voltage at the pump connector
♦ Check the fuse 18 of the fuel pump.
Replace defective fuse. ♦ Switch on the ignition, the fuel pump should run for a short time.
An assistant is needed for the hearing test. ♦ If the pump does not work, connect the remote control button.

♦ Press the remote control button.
If the pump now starts, replace the fuel pump relay. If the fuel pump does not start, proceed as follows:
♦ Cut the floor covering to the right of the handbrake lever.
♦ Remove the fuel gauge/fuel pump guard.
♦ Disconnect the level sensor/fuel pump connector by prying up the side retaining tabs with a small screwdriver.
♦ Connect a test lamp or voltmeter to the connector pins (see fig. 250).

♦ By pressing the remote control button, check if there is current at the pump connector (about 12V);
otherwise, the wiring is damaged. ♦ If there is voltage, remove the level sensor/fuel pump.
♦ Check the condition of the contacts and the reliability of the connection of the ground bus and the electrical wiring from the sensor housing to the fuel pump, if necessary, repair the break.
♦ If there is no visible damage, replace the fuel pump.
♦ Install the fuel level sensor, connect the wiring.
Checking the performance of the fuel pump (see. Fig. 249)
♦ Connect a voltmeter to the fuel pump.
While pressing the remote control button, measure and record the measured voltage (approximately 2 V less than the battery voltage - 12 V). ♦ Just in case, open and close the fuel filler cap to eliminate vacuum.
♦ Disconnect the fuel return line (1) from the tee (see Fig. 249).
Connect an additional hose with a pressure gauge using an adapter, lower the other end into any container. ♦ Turn on the fuel pump, gradually close the valve until the pressure gauge shows a pressure of 3 bar.
Leave the valve in this position. ♦ Substitute measuring container.
♦ Collect leaking fuel within 30 seconds.
♦ Based on the supply voltage of the fuel pump and the diagram (see Fig. 251), determine the minimum allowable amount of fuel supplied.

♦ Compare the amount received with the calculated one from the diagram.
Next, you need to check the non-return (non-return) valve of the fuel pump.
