nozzles
Volkswagen T4 injectors in gasoline injection systems are solenoid valves. The injectors are located in separate intake manifold pipes. The nozzle (see Fig. 270) consists of a body containing an electromagnet coil (3) and a rod (2) rigidly connected to a needle (1) pressed against the socket by a helical spring. The electromagnetic field created in the electromagnet coil, as a result of a current pulse from the microprocessor module, raises the rod, while overcoming the resistance of the helical spring.

The duration of the injector opening, depending on the duration of the signal of the microprocessor module, regulates the amount of fuel supplied. All nozzles are interconnected in parallel, which ensures uniform dosing of fuel in the cylinders (see. Fig. 273).

To replace the injector, the following operations must be carried out:
♦ Remove the terminals from the battery.
Disconnect the fuel rail valve connector. ♦ Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator fitting.
♦ Remove the bolts securing the fuel distributor (requires a small 5 mm socket).
♦ Pull forward to the left the fuel separator together with the VW T4 injectors.
♦ Remove the screw (1, fig. 271) and remove the top half of the distributor (2) from the bottom half (3).
♦ Fix the hexagon head bolt (MB) in a vise and remove the nozzle.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Place the gasket on the seating surface of the lower half of the fuel distributor. Lubricate the rings with engine oil, put them on the nozzle and settle the nozzle in the upper half of the distributor. Align the upper and lower halves of the distributor and tighten the fastening bolts to 10 Nm.
The power system supplies the injector with half the portion of fuel per one revolution of the crankshaft of the T4 engine .
Possible malfunctions caused by improper operation of the injectors.
- The engine does not start or starts with difficulty.
- Unstable idle speed.
