Installing the crankshaft

♦ Wipe the seating surfaces under the main bearings in the cylinder block.
Lay half-inserts with an oil hole with an adjusting ledge in a dredging of a support of the block. Lubricate the bearings liberally with clean engine oil. ♦ Place both supporting half rings in the engine block near the middle support (if the liners have not been replaced).
♦ Place the crankshaft carefully on the half shells.
♦ Place the main bearing half shells without oil hole in the respective main bearing caps with the tabs in the cap recesses and lubricate them well with engine oil.
Install the two remaining support half rings (if any) in the center support cover and lubricate them liberally with engine oil. The oil grooves must point towards the crankshaft. ♦ Install the main bearing caps and then tap them into place with a rubber or plastic mallet.
♦ Tighten the main bearing bolts in several passes and in a criss-cross pattern starting at the middle bearing. Make the final pass with a torque of 65 Nm. After tightening the main bearing caps, rotate the T4 crankshaft several times to make sure it rotates freely in the liners.
Possible causes of jamming are listed above. ♦ Check the end play of the crankshaft as described above.
The gap should be correct. Assemble pistons with connecting rods. ♦ Replace and install both crankshaft seals Conveyor T4 (see below).
♦ Install the timing belt sprocket.
♦ Install the toothed belt and belt guard.
♦ On manual transmission vehicles, reinstall the flywheel.
The flywheel bolts must always be replaced. Coat the threads of the bolts with an anti-screwing agent. Tightening torque - 100 Nm. While tightening the bolts, secure the crankshaft by placing a block of wood between the crankshaft elbow and the block wall. ♦ After installing the flywheel, install the clutch basket (according to the marks), tighten its fastening bolts to 20 Nm.
♦ On vehicles with automatic transmission, install the drive disc.
Insert one lining (washer) between the bearing surface of the crankshaft and the drive disk, and place the second under the bolt heads. Coat the bolts with a protective agent against unscrewing. Tightening torque - 75 Nm. ♦ Install the oil pump.
Install the oil pan with a new gasket. For hexagon head bolts tightening torque 20 Nm. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order to disassembly.
