Setting the camber / convergence of the rear wheels
The rear wheel geometry of the Transporter T4 differs depending on the vehicle group.
Before proceeding with the adjustment of the installation of the rear wheels, it is necessary to determine by the sticker which group this car belongs to. In the rear wheel suspension, only toe can be adjusted. The adjustment is based on moving the shoulder of the trailing arm in the rear silent block forward or backward. During adjustment, the vehicle must be on wheels. It should be remembered that toe-in can only be set correctly if the wheel is tilted correctly, as the angle of inclination affects toe-in. ♦ Measure the toe-in as described for the front wheels (see above).
If the value obtained differs from the required value by more than 30º, it is necessary to adjust the toe-in. ♦ Loosen the nut (1, fig. 408) of the trailing arm rear silent block and use a screwdriver to move the arm forward or backward to obtain the required rear wheel toe-in.
When the desired result is achieved, leave the lever in the last position and tighten the nut (1) to 100 Nm. The tilt of the rear wheels can be measured with an arbitrary device, but the use of optical devices is preferable.
If the measured value does not correspond to the recommended data, then the rear suspension is considered deformed. Incorrect wheel alignment accelerates tire wear.
