Pilot lamps

the Volkswagen Transporter T4 control lamps (hereinafter, KL) depends on the car model and engine version (see Fig. 19).

Coolant temperature/level indicator light (see 1, fig. 19)

The indicator light flashes when the ignition is switched on for a few seconds - this is normal, a function check is in progress.
If the indicator lamp does not go out later or starts flashing while driving, this indicates either a too high temperature or a too low fluid level in the cooling system.
It is recommended to stop the car, turn off the engine and check the coolant level. Top up if necessary. If the coolant level is normal, a malfunction in the cooling system may be caused by a malfunction (not turning on) of the fan.
Check fan fuse and replace if necessary. If the T4 Conveyor warning lamp does not go out, although the coolant level is normal and the fan fuse is good, it is not recommended to continue driving - qualified assistance is needed.
If the cause is only a fan malfunction and the coolant level is normal, and the CL goes out after a while, you can continue driving to the nearest VW service station.

In order to use the flow of oncoming air to cool the liquid, it is recommended to move at a speed of at least 30 km / h. Engine oil pressure switch (see 2, fig. 19)

Lights up when the ignition is switched on.
Should go out after starting the engine. If, after starting the engine, the CL does not go out or flashes or lights up when driving at a crankshaft speed of more than 2000 rpm while the buzzer sounds, you need to stop, turn off the engine, check the oil level and, if necessary, bring it to normal.
If the LED stays on with normal engine oil level, you cannot continue driving. The engine should not run even at idle. Qualified help is needed. The oil pressure warning lamp T4 may come on if the engine is running at excessively low RPM (lower than idle) while driving.

Increase the frequency of the engine with the “gas” pedal or change to a lower gear. High beam switch (see 3, fig. 19)

Illuminates when the high beam headlights are switched on.

Direction indicator lights (see 4, fig. 19)

Depending on which direction indicators are on, the left or right indicator light on the instrument panel flashes simultaneously.

If one of the direction indicator lamps is out of order, the CL flashes twice as often. KL direction indicators when driving with a trailer

Located separately.
CL flashes together with the direction indicators on the vehicle and trailer. If one of the direction indicator lamps on the vehicle or trailer fails, the trailer indicator lamp does not flash.

CL of the battery charging system (see 5, fig. 19)

Lights up when the ignition is switched on.
Should go out after starting the engine. The generator drive on 5 and 6-cylinder engines is carried out by a poly-V-belt, on a 4-cylinder engine - by a simple V-belt.
If the warning lamp comes on while driving, stop, turn off the engine and check the condition of the corresponding alternator drive belt.
If the belt tension is loose, adjust it as described in the relevant chapter; if the belt is broken, you cannot continue driving, because.
the cooling system pump does not work - the engine may overheat. Vehicles with a 2.4 liter diesel engine (55 and 57 kW) or a 2.5 liter petrol engine (85 kW) can continue driving in normal mode with a loose or broken V-belt to the nearest VW service station, because
the cooling system pump has an autonomous drive. Since the battery is continuously discharging, it is recommended to turn off all possible electrical consumers. If the T4 warning lamp is on, although the alternator drive belt is normal, you can continue driving to the nearest VW service station, given the need for austerity.

CL brake system

KL lights up when the ignition is on, if the parking brake is applied, or when the level of brake fluid in the compensation tank is low.
On vehicles with an ABS system, the KL lights up for a few seconds after the ignition is switched on or the engine is started.
In the event of a failure of the ABS system, the CL of the brake system lights up together with the CL of the ABS system. Preheating system warning light (only for vehicles with a diesel engine)
When the engine is cold, the warning light comes on when the ignition switch is turned on (“Ignition on”).
If the T4 Conveyor warning light does not come on, the preheating system is faulty.
After the CL has gone out, you can immediately start the engine.
On cars with a 50 kW engine, immediately after closing the driver's door, preheating is automatically turned on, sometimes, when the engine is cold, after the ignition switch is turned on (“Ignition is on”), the CL does not light up.
The engine can be started immediately. When the engine is warm, the CL does not light up - you can immediately start the engine.
Note.

If during the movement of a car equipped with a 75 kW diesel engine, violations occur in the engine control system, which will be indicated by a flashing CL, the engine must be urgently checked at a VW service station. Rear fog lights LED (see 8, fig. 19)

When the rear fog lights are turned on, the corresponding LED lights up.

CL for airbags

CL lights up after switching on the ignition for approx. 3 seconds.
On vehicles with the front passenger airbag deactivated, the LED flashes for about 12 seconds. If the LED does not go out or comes on while driving, the airbag system is defective.

It is urgent to contact a VW service station. ABS warning light (ABS)

The warning light warns of a malfunction in the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and/or traction control (EDS).
The ABS warning light comes on after the ignition is turned on or when the engine is started for a few seconds.
It goes out after the end of the automatic system health check process. If the T4 control lamp does not light up when the ignition is switched on, or, after a few seconds after the ignition is switched on, does not go out or lights up while driving, then the ABS system is faulty.
If a malfunction occurs in the ABS, the following is possible:
- if only one CL of the system is lit while driving, then the brake system is in good order, the brakes work without the ABS system.
It is recommended, if possible, to contact a VW service station; - if two CLs of the ABS system and the service brake system are on, this means that both systems are faulty.

Use the hand (parking) brake, reduce the speed to a minimum, find and repair the problem as soon as possible (see chapter 9). Traction control switch (EDS system)

The EDS system (Electronic Differential Lock) works in conjunction with the ABS system. A malfunction in the EDS system is also indicated by the glow of the ABS system LED. It is necessary to contact a VW service station as soon as possible.
