Heating and ventilation

Controls for the heating and ventilation system of the passenger compartment Volkswagen T4 (see Fig. 31)

Rice. 31 Control panel for the interior heating/ventilation system

Switch (A) - setting the operating mode of the fan of the interior ventilation system (rear)

The interior ventilation system (outside air supply) operates independently of the ventilation system of the front part of the cabin (driver's and front passenger's seats) and is carried out by a fan, which is located at the rear on the right side in the upholstery of the side panel of the body.
When ventilating the cabin of the T4 Conveyor, the supplied outside air passes through the filter and enters the cabin through nozzles located in the ceiling.
When the fan is on, at least one nozzle must be open in the ceiling, otherwise the fan will soon turn off due to overheating.
Three-stage adjustment of a stream of air is provided.
The fan air intake is located near the rear right side window.
Switch (B) - auxiliary heater fan (rear)
No outside air is supplied, the auxiliary heater operates in cabin air recirculation mode.
Three-stage adjustment of a stream of air is provided.
The air temperature is also controlled by the knob (D) of the heating system.
On vehicles with passenger seats, the nozzle is located in the floor under the middle bench seat.
On Multlvan, Van and Trailer vehicles, the nozzle is located in the step between the driver's cab and passenger compartment.
Try not to block the nozzles of the system, as the fan may fail due to overheating.

Switch (C) - fan (front of the passenger compartment)

There are four modes of air supply.
At a low speed, it is recommended to turn on the lowest fan speed. On vehicles with a dust filter, any position of the switch (C) cleans the air supply of dust, etc.

Knob (D) - setting the temperature mode: clockwise - increase in air temperature, counterclockwise - decrease.

Handle (E) - distribution of air supply in directions (front seats)

Key (F) - setting the air recirculation mode

By pressing the key, the air recirculation mode in the ventilation system of the T4 Conveyor is switched on.
At the same time, the key starts to glow KL. To turn off the air recirculation mode, press the same button again.
The operation of the heater in the recirculation mode prevents unpleasant odors from entering the passenger compartment, and also provides accelerated heating of the passenger compartment.

Depending on the position of the handle D, through the nozzles (1), (2), (4) and (5) (see Fig. 31), heated or cold outside air is supplied to the front of the passenger compartment.
Nozzles (3) supply only fresh air.
The distribution of the air supply to the nozzles is determined by the position of the knob (E).
Additionally, the nozzles (3) and (4) can be individually opened or closed: dial up - nozzle open, knob down - nozzle closed.
By changing the inclination of the nozzle grid (3) and (4), the direction of the air flow can be changed.
For the T4's interior heating/ventilation systems to work reliably, the outside air intake located in front of the windshield must be kept clear of ice, snow, and leaves.
The power of the T4 heating system and the auxiliary heater depends on the temperature of the coolant in the engine cooling system - therefore, the greatest heat transfer occurs when the engine is warm.
Air is removed from the passenger compartment through special slots in the side trim of the luggage compartment.
On Volkswagen Transporter T4 solid baffle, platform and double cab vehicles, the used air is removed through special slots in the front doors.
