Double seat for front passengers
♦ To fold the backrest of the double seat of the front passengers of the Volkswagen Transporter T4, press the lock button located behind the backrest.
♦ When folded, the backrest is fixed.
Therefore, to return the backrest to its original position, you must press the button again. When the backrest is folded down, the parking brake lever is inaccessible and access to the gear lever is difficult.
Removal and installation of bench seat is recommended to be carried out by two people,

Raising the backrest
♦ Push the backrest down and hold it in this position.
Press the lock button, recline the backrest to its original position until it locks. In this position, the backrest is locked in an upright position. Middle seat (double)
Folding the backrest
♦ Press the lock button (see the arrow in Fig. 45) located at the back and fold the backrest down. In the folded position, the back is fixed.

Raising the backrest
♦ Press the backrest down to relieve the lock, press the lock button and bring the backrest to the upright position until it locks.
Driving position
The seat is in the driving position (see fig. 45) when it is securely fixed at the anchor points to the floor. In addition, the backrest must be fixed in an upright position.

Rear seat (triple)
The rear seat belts must be tucked under the side upholstery trims before folding the seat to avoid possible damage.
Driving position
The seat is in the working position when the seat is installed and securely fixed at the anchor points to the floor.
In addition, the backrest must be raised and fixed in an upright position. Folding the backrest
♦ On vehicles with swivel individual seats, remove the head restraints from the bench seat so that the head restraints do not hit each other.
♦ Pull the handle located next to the top edge of the backrest in the direction of the arrow.
♦ Fold down the backrest.
Raising the backrest
♦ Return the backrest to its original position and lock it securely.
Make sure that when the backrest is raised, the seat belts are not pinched and thus damaged. ♦ Replace the head restraints.
Folding the seat
♦ Fold the backrest.
♦ Fold the luggage compartment cover onto the folded backrest.
♦ Pull on the loop at the bottom of the seat.
♦ Fold the seat forward.
Unfolding the seat
♦ Carefully fold the seat back into place.
Make sure that when you recline the seat, nothing gets between the seat cushions and does not damage the upholstery. Unfolding the seat into a seating position
♦ Remove the head restraints.
♦ Set aside the seat belts:
slip the rear belt straps under the side trims of the passenger compartment upholstery;
- Pass the other elements of the seat belts between the cushion and the back of the seat.
Rear bench seat/sleeper (Multivan models)
Driving position
The seat is in the working position when the seat in the guide slide is moved back to the stop, the backrest is raised and securely fixed.
Folding the backrest
♦ Unlock the seatback and tilt it slightly.
Then grasp the notch-handle in front of the seat and pull the seat forward in the direction of the arrow until it stops. Hold the backrest while doing this, otherwise the ashtray and drink holder may be damaged. ♦ Tilt the backrest backwards into the resulting gap until it is in a horizontal position.
Rear bench seat (twin cab models)
Under the seat cushion is an additional storage box.
To gain access to it, it is necessary to remove the cushion latch with the release handle and tilt the cushion upwards, holding it in this position. ♦ When closing, it is recommended to make sure that the seat cushion is securely fixed and that it does not press objects lying in the glove box.
Removing/Installing the Seat Cushion
♦ Remove the seat cushion retainer, fold the cushion up and push it forward as far as it will go.
Lift the pillow on the left side until the guides rest on the base of the pillow. Lift the opposite side of the cushion and remove the cushion from the seat. Install in reverse order.
Special considerations for transporting long luggage
It is possible to carry long luggage (skis, etc.) that is passed through the upholstery of the base of the bench/lounge seat in the Multlvan model or the triple seat in the Caravelle.
Removal
♦ Pull out the cover handle in the direction of the arrow (see fig. 47).

Installation
♦ Insert the cover into the hole and flip it up until it locks into place.
Single seat with refrigerator
Adjusting the backrest angle
The angle of the backrest can be changed incrementally:
♦ Pull the handle (1) in the direction of the arrow (see fig. 46).
♦ Against the force of the spring, set the desired backrest angle.
♦ Release the handle and lock the backrest.
With a certain seating position, the backrests of the single seat and the driver's seat can touch each other at the top.
Therefore, for convenience, it is possible to unlock the back of an unoccupied single seat from the driver's seat by sharply pushing the back back in order to move the back of the single seat away from the back of the driver's seat. Raising the seat cushion
♦ To unlock the seat cushion, push the handle (2) (see fig. 46) forward or pull it back.
Then flip the pillow up. The pillow is fixed in the fully raised position.
Putting the seat cushion in place
♦ Press the raised cushion in front. Then, pressing the handle (2) fold the pillow down.
