Recommendations for cargo placement

To ensure good handling and minimal wear on the vehicle, it is recommended that the load (passengers and luggage) be evenly distributed.
Heavy objects should, if possible, be placed above the rear axle or, even better, between the axles. It is also recommended not to place the load near the swing doors or the back door above the glass level, so as not to accidentally damage the heating conductors.
The interior ventilation system is designed so that the air from the passenger compartment is removed through the ventilation openings located at the rear of the body.
These openings are not recommended to be covered with luggage. To avoid damage to the floor of the Volkswagen Transporter T4 and the seat fasteners, when loading heavy items of luggage, adhere to the following recommendations.
- Before loading, place a hardboard under the luggage on the floor.
The weight of the luggage will be distributed more evenly in the luggage compartment. This recommendation is all the more relevant the older your car is. - With the seats removed, make holes in the mat where the protruding seat fasteners are.
- In any case, avoid large concentrated loads on small areas of the floor.
- It is recommended to place luggage in the luggage compartment or on the cargo area so that it cannot tip over;

it is not recommended to tilt heavy luggage. Luggage loops

On vehicles equipped with lashing eyes, it is always recommended to secure luggage items to these lashing eyes.
Mounting lugs meet the requirements of DIN 75410.
On some versions of the T4 Transporter, it is recommended to first fold the mounting lugs up, and only then can they be used (see Fig. 50, 51).

Luggage compartment shelf

On cars with a rear bench seat, a luggage compartment shelf was installed by an additional order.
The shelf is fastened with a belt to the side trim. The shelf can be folded up and secured in this position with a strap (see the arrow in Fig. 52) to make it easier to place the load in the luggage compartment.
During the movement, the shelf must be lowered and secured with a belt in the lower position.
