Removal and installation of an oil crankcase
The oil pan can be removed from the engine directly on a Volkswagen Transporter T4 .
♦ Loosen the drain plug on the crankcase and drain the engine oil.
♦ Mount the engine on a hoist and raise it slightly.
♦ Remove the crankcase protection.
♦ Remove the oil sump by unscrewing the mounting bolts and remove the gasket.
Thoroughly clean the seating surfaces on the block and crankcase. ♦ Install the oil sump in reverse order.
Follow these guidelines during installation: ♦ Always replace the gasket.
Sealing surfaces must not be coated with either sealant or grease. Install the gasket dry. ♦ Make sure the gasket and oil sump are correctly aligned with the cylinder block and that the gasket does not move during tightening.
♦ Tighten the fixing bolts evenly and crosswise, the hexagon head bolts are tightened to a torque of 20 Nm.
