Brake ATE/TEVES

Floating mechanism, fitted to VW T4 vehicles from January 1996.

Replacing the front disc brake pads by ATE/Teves

Removal

♦ Remove the rubber caps with a screwdriver (see Fig. 430).

♦ Remove the spring (5) holding the brake pads.
♦ Unscrew both guide pins.
♦ Remove the caliper and hang it with wire from the suspension pole so that the brake hose is not under tension.
♦ Remove the brake pads from the caliper.

Installation

♦ Clean the caliper body.
♦ Insert the inner brake lining with the retaining spring into the caliper, pushing the piston down first.
♦ Carefully insert the outer brake lining into the caliper.
♦ Connect the caliper together with the bracket and screw in the guides (8), tighten them to a torque of 25 Nm.
♦ Replace both rubber caps.
Insert the caliper of the ATE brake as follows:
♦ Insert one end of the caliper under the caliper and insert the lug into the hole in the housing (see arrow A, fig. 433).

♦ Insert the second edge of the bracket under the caliper, insert the second protrusion into the hole (see arrow B).
♦ After installing the brake pads, press the brake pedal hard several times to get the pads to work.
