Shock absorbers - removal and installation
The way of fastening of the shock-absorber is shown in fig.
377. From this figure it can be seen that the shock absorber is fixed from below with a bolt and nut, and from above it is seated in a special bracket. ♦ Place supports on the left and right side under the body.
Loosen adjusting bolt (42) to relieve tension. Disconnect the shock absorber lower mount. Detach the upper bracket from the body and remove the shock absorber. ♦ Fix the shock absorber T4 in a vise and remove it from the bracket.
A special key is required to fix the stem. Shock absorber Transporter T4 is installed in reverse order.
Secure the shock absorber to the upper bracket with rubber bushings and spacers. Fit the top washer and fastening nut (1, Fig. 377) and tighten to 25 Nm. While tightening the piston nut, the piston rod must be held with a special wrench. Fasten the Volkswagen Transporter shock absorber bracket to the body with a bolt and nut, finally tightening it to a torque of 100 Nm. Lower the car from the supports and rock the body a few times to install the rubber bushings. Tighten the nuts securing the shock absorber from below with a torque of 160 Nm.
