Headlights are on only when the ignition is on.
When the engine is started and after the ignition is switched off, they automatically switch to the parking lights. If, after removing the key from the ignition, the exterior lighting is not turned off, then when the driver's door is open, a "buzzer" type signal starts to sound.
To turn on the outdoor lighting in the "side lighting" or "dipped / main beam" mode, turn the switch (1) to the first fixed position.
When the rear fog lights are on, the corresponding CL lights up on the instrument panel.
The electrical circuit of the car ensures that the rear fog lights are automatically turned off when a trailer is operated with similar headlights.

Instrument panel illumination (see 2, fig. 25)

When the outdoor lighting of the Transporter T4 is on, the brightness of the instrument panel backlight can be smoothly changed by turning the knob located next to the outdoor lighting switch.
When the alarm is on, all four direction indicators flash simultaneously, as well as all the CLs of the direction indicators and the CLs in the switch.

Headlight positioner

The electrically adjustable headlight range allows the headlight range to be infinitely adjusted to suit the vehicle load.
Thanks to this, it is possible to improve the illumination of the road in front of the car. The headlights can only be adjusted when the dipped beam is on.
To lower the light cone, turn the dial downwards from the initial position (—) (see 3 fig. 25).

Alarm switch Transporter T4 (see 4, fig. 26)

The alarm system works also at the switched-off ignition.

Heated rear window (see 5, fig. 26)

The heating only works when the ignition is on.
When the heating is on, the corresponding LED in the switch lights up. The heated exterior mirrors and rear window are deactivated automatically approximately 5 minutes after the heated rear window is switched on. If further heating is required, it is recommended to turn off the heated rear window and turn it on again.

Switches Transporter T4 for ceiling fans (see fig. 26)

Fans work also at the switched-off ignition.
When the fan is running, the corresponding LED in the button lights up. Left switch - removes air from the passenger compartment
Right switch - supplies air to the passenger compartment
Seat heating control dial (see 7, fig. 26)
Front seat backs and cushions can be heated by electric current when the engine is running.
Heating is switched on by the corresponding disk switch-regulator; it also smoothly regulates the intensity of heating. To turn off, turn the dial switch. Pull-out button for engaging the differential lock (all-wheel drive vehicle) To turn on / off the all-wheel drive mode, press / pull out the corresponding button (see Fig. 27).

Turning on / off the all-wheel drive will not happen immediately, but with a time delay, under the control of the onboard microprocessor.

Steering column switch for direction indicators and headlights Volkswagen Transporter T4 (see Fig. 28)

Rice. 28 Turn signal switch Volkswagen Transporter T4

Right turn indicator - switch Transporter T4 up (1).
Left Turn Signal - Down Switch (2).
When the direction indicator is on, the corresponding CL flashes simultaneously.
When the vehicle exits the turn, the turn signal will automatically turn off.
Switching to main beam or dipped beam
Switching with the dipped beam or main beam switched on is carried out by moving the steering column switch towards the steering wheel (3). When switching to high beam, the high beam light comes on.

Light signal (“flash headlights”)

Press the stalk to the steering wheel to the point of increased resistance to movement (3) - the headlights and the corresponding CL of the high beam will flash.

Tempomat

To free the driver from the need to maintain the desired speed with the “gas” pedal during long-term movement (for example, on the highway), a device called “tempomat” is used.
Tempomat ensures the set speed is constant (not lower than 45 km/h), if the engine can provide this speed. When the cruise control is on, do not move the gear lever to neutral without disengaging the clutch!
Otherwise, the engine will pick up very high speed (“give a goat”), and this can lead to its failure! On cars with automatic transmission, the cruise control works only if the selector lever is in position "D", "3" and "2".
If any other gear is selected while driving (“P, N, R or 1”), the last set speed value is deleted from the memory of the onboard microprocessor, and the cruise control is completely disabled. The speed control is controlled by a sliding switch Transporter T4 (A) and a push button (B) located on the steering column switch for direction indicators and headlights (see Fig. 29).
The tempomat is switched on by moving the switch (A) to the “ON” position.
When the set speed is reached, briefly press the button (B) ("SET").
Now you can take your foot off the “gas” pedal - the tempomat is on. In the future, you can increase the value of the set speed without pressing the “gas” pedal. To do this, press the key (B) and keep it pressed until the set speed is reached.

Rice. 29 Tempomat control keys.

The speed of movement can also be increased in the usual way - by pressing the "gas" pedal.
After releasing the pedal, the cruise control will reduce the speed to the set value. The cruise control switches off briefly when the brake or clutch pedal is pressed, as well as when there is a significant difference between the actual and set speeds, for example, when driving uphill in a gear that is too high for such an ascent.
To return to driving at the previously set speed, it is recommended that after releasing the brake or clutch pedal or at the end of the ascent, move the switch (A) all the way to the left (“RES”).
The tempomat is completely turned off when the switch (A) is turned all the way to the right (“OFF”) or, when the vehicle is stationary, when the ignition is turned off.
