Adjustment of a tension of a gear belt of the pump of the hydraulic booster
The toothed (V-belt) belt is considered to be correctly tensioned if, under pressure with the thumb at the middle of the distance between the two drive pulleys, it bends by approximately 5 mm. The way to adjust the tension in four and five-cylinder engines are different. the Transporter T4 four-cylinder engine , both petrol and diesel, the bolts connecting the two halves of the belt pulley are used for adjustment.
A five-cylinder engine uses a tensioner roller. When buying a new belt, be sure to include the car model code. Four-cylinder engine
♦ Remove the bolts (1) shown in fig.
417 and remove the front drive pulley half. ♦ Remove the washers between the drive pulley halves, connect the pulley halves and screw them together.
Put the removed washers under the bolts. Such a rearrangement of the shims causes an increase in the tension of the V-belt. ♦ To reduce the tension of the V-belt, it is necessary to rearrange part of the washers located outside to the middle.
♦ Connect the halves of the pulley together, and shown in fig.
417 tighten the bolts to 20 Nm. Five-cylinder engine
A tensioner pulley serves to tension the V-belt.
The roller disk has holes for a special key, without which it is difficult to adjust the belt tension. The hex head bolt must be loosened with a socket wrench, and then tightened with a special wrench. ♦ Turn the roller disc with a special wrench (eg MATPAV159) and tighten the screws again. Check the belt tension again. Several adjustments may be necessary to obtain the desired deflection of the V-belt (5 mm from thumb pressure).
