Diesel engine oil pressure test

The oil pressure is measured in the engine of the Transporter T4 with a special pressure gauge (1342 from VW) with an adapter that is screwed in instead of the oil pressure sensor.

225 Engine lubrication system device 1.9 l 1 - oil filler plug, 2 - oil filler pipe, 3.6 - sealing ring, 4 - oil dipstick, 5 - nut, 10 Nm, 7 - pressure sensor 0.3 bar, 8 - crankcase ventilation fitting , 9 - bolt, 20 Nm, 10 - pressure sensor 0.9 bar, 11 - oil filter bracket, 12 - oil cooler, 13 - nut, 14 - oil filter, 15 - pump gears, 16 - pump cover with pressure reducing valve, 17 - oil drain plug, 18 - oil crankcase, 19 - oil receiver tube, 20 - oil level damper, 21 - oil nozzle bolt, 22 - nozzle, oil feed under the piston, 23 - gasket

♦ Unscrew the 0.3 bar (0.03 MPa) oil pressure switch from the engine.
♦ Screw the pressure gauge adapter into the block instead of the sensor.
♦ Connect according to fig. 226 test lamp (2) with electric wire (1) and additional battery clamp.

♦ Connect the brown wire (3) to ground.
♦ Switch on the ignition and check if the oil pressure warning light comes on.
♦ If the light does not come on, replace the sensor.
♦ Start the engine and slowly increase the engine speed.
♦ When the oil pressure reaches 0.15 -0.45 bar (0.015 - 0.0445 MPa), the indicator lamp should go out.
Otherwise, replace the sensor. ♦ Disconnect the electrical wire connector (1) from the 0.3 bar sensor and connect it to the wire connector in the gray insulation of the 0.9 bar (0.09 MPa) sensor.
The control lamp (2) should light up at a pressure of 0 75 -1.05 bar (0.075 - 0.105 MPa), otherwise replace the sensor. ♦ Increase the frequency further and check if the pressure is 2.0 bar (0.2 MPa) at 2000 rpm. During the measurement, the engine must be warmed up to operating temperature. If the pressure is too low, the oil pump may be damaged or the crankshaft main bearings worn.
