Removal

Without lifting the Volkswagen Transporter T4, remove the wheel nuts.
Raise the rear of the car and remove the wheels. Floating type mechanism: Remove the two bolts securing the caliper to the wheel hub housing and remove the caliper together with the brake shield.
Frame mechanism: to remove, first unscrew the lower caliper mounting bolt and loosen the upper bolt.
♦ If necessary, disconnect the brake hose from the hub housing.
♦ Suspend the brake caliper to the body on a wire so as not to damage the brake hose.
♦ Do not disconnect the brake hose, otherwise the brake system will need to be bled after repair.
♦ If the caliper is to be completely removed (for replacement), the brake hose must be disconnected from the tube.
The brake hose cannot be disconnected from the caliper otherwise. Seal the open pipe with a wooden plug.
♦ Loosen the brake disc bolt with a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench.
♦ Remove the brake disc.

Installation

Brake disks, as well as pads, are recommended to be replaced in pairs.
Brake discs after dismantling must be checked for runout.
The maximum allowable runout of the working surface should not exceed 0.03 mm. The maximum allowable thickness difference along the perimeter of the disk is 0.01 mm. ♦ Measure the disc thickness.
♦ If there is rust on the brake disc flange and front wheel hub, remove it with a wire brush and coat these surfaces with movil or any other preservative.
♦ Mount the brake disc on the wheel hub and tighten the Allen screws.
♦ Fit the caliper with new brake pads.
When doing this, try not to twist or stretch the brake hose. ♦ If necessary, attach the brake hose to the hub housing.
♦ Attach the brake caliper with a torque of 280 Nm.
Be careful not to push the car off the stands. ♦ Bleed the brake system.
♦ Replace the wheels.
Lower the vehicle off the stands and tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 160 Nm. ♦ Depress the brake pedal several times to bring the pads into working position.
♦ Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top up if necessary.
